What does a business do when they have a surplus of useable products that they don’t want to go to the landfill? They contact our Habitat for Humanity Niagara ReStores!
That’s what LJM Developments President Liaquat Mian did once his company finished their work on one of their condominium projects.
As LJM was completing their project in the condominiums and the commercial space on the service road in Grimsby, they needed to clear out excess materials and clean up the space. They thought of Habitat Niagara ReStores recognizing there was a surplus of items that could be sold in the stores. LJM has been an ongoing partner of Habitat Niagara and this was just another way they could show their support.
Last year, Liaquat Mian presented Habitat for Humanity Niagara with a cheque for $150,000 to help address the affordable housing shortage and build more Habitat homes.
Liaquat Mian is deeply dedicated to community engagement, corporate social responsibility, and charitable efforts. He consistently seeks opportunities for LJM to make a positive impact in the communities they serve, fostering a sense of belonging and shared prosperity. For Liaquat Mian, giving back to the country he has called home for over two decades is of paramount importance. Notable contributions include donations to Habitat for Humanity in Grimsby, the gift of four units valued at over $2 million to the City of London for affordable housing, and a $2 million pledge towards the construction of a new hospital in the Niagara region, which will also include a city park dedicated to the Mian family.
The surplus of new construction materials such as ceramic tile flooring, vinyl flooring, pipe insulation, light fixtures and metal were picked up by our staff and team of volunteers and brought back to the Grimsby ReStore to sell.
“Community and corporate donations are such a vital part of the ReStore model in order to fund operations and ultimately put proceeds towards building affordable homes for families in our community,” said Al Rolleman, Habitat Niagara’s operations director. “We were excited that LJM reached out to us with a generous offer. Hopefully, we were able to help them as well by clearing some of the big and heavy items out of the commercial space. LJM was professional, accessible and easy to communicate with to make this large project go as smoothly as possible.”
The ReStore is a social enterprise retailer that accepts and resells donations of new and gently used furniture, appliances, décor and home improvement building materials. All proceeds from the ReStore fund Habitat for Humanity and help build homes in the community for those in need of a safe and affordable place to call home.
