After the busy holiday season, many of us feel the urge to clear out the clutter, simplify our spaces, and start the New Year feeling refreshed.
The best part? Decluttering your home can make a meaningful impact in your community when you donate gently used items to our Niagara ReStores – you can complete the reset by refreshing your space with affordable ReStore finds.
Simple tips to get started
Start small You don’t need to tackle your entire home in one weekend. Begin with manageable areas like your entryway, under the kitchen sink or those notorious junk drawers to build momentum.
Declutter before you organize It’s tempting to buy bins and baskets right away, but remember, you can’t organize clutter. Clear out what you no longer need first, then organizing will be easier and more effective.
Use the three-box rule As you go through items, decide immediately what to do with them and sort items into three categories:
- Keep
- Donate
- Trash
This helps you stay focused and avoid second-guessing.
Remove donations quickly Once you’ve filled your donation box, get it out of the house as soon as possible. Dropping items off at a local charity or the ReStore helps prevent clutter from creeping back in. See what items we accept.
Declutter, donate and refresh
When you donate furniture, home décor, appliances, building materials and other household items the ReStore, you’re helping Habitat for Humanity Niagara build homes, communities and hope for local families in our region. Donations are resold at affordable prices (and no tax), with proceeds staying right here in Niagara to support Habitat for Humanity Niagara and its homebuilding program.
Once you’ve decluttered, visit the ReStore to refresh your home with unique, affordable treasures, new-to-you furniture, décor and renovation items that help you start the year felling inspired.
