Partnership donation of windows, doors and siding will help build three affordable townhomes in Welland
Habitat for Humanity Niagara is proud to announce a new partnership with Cornerstone Building Brands, a leading North American manufacturer of exterior building products, through its signature Home for Good project. The partnership marks the official launch of the Home for Good project in Canada and will help provide affordable homeownership opportunities for local families in Niagara.
Since its inception in 2016, Cornerstone Building Brands’ Home for Good project has worked hand-in-hand with partners from the country music industry to raise awareness about the affordable housing crisis and inspire action across North America. These artists have played an important role in amplifying the message that safe, affordable housing is the foundation for stronger communities.
As an advocate for community impact, Canadian country music artist Alli Walker has joined Cornerstone Building Brands’ Home for Good project ambassadors, helping bring greater visibility to the need for affordable housing and the life-changing impact it has on families. Walker’s involvement with the Home for Good project has reflects the themes at the heart of her her recently released single One Story House, exploring themes of home, resilience, commitment and building a life together.
Supporting that mission in Niagara, Cornerstone Building Brands, through its North Star and Mitten brands, is donating 38 windows, three patio doors and 4,400 square feet of siding to Habitat Niagara’s townhouse development at Plymouth Road in Welland.
The donated building materials will be used in the final phase of Habitat Niagara’s largest housing project to date. When complete, the development will include nine affordable townhomes, providing stability, security and a pathway to homeownership for nine local families.
In July, Habitat Niagara held a key ceremony to celebrate the completion of the first six homes on the site. Construction on the remaining three townhomes is scheduled to begin this fall, with applications currently open for qualifying families.
“We are incredibly grateful to Cornerstone Building Brands for choosing Habitat Niagara as the launch partner for the Home for Good project in Canada,” said Mark Carl, CEO of Habitat for Humanity Niagara. “This generous donation will help reduce construction costs and ensure more local families have the opportunity to achieve affordable homeownership. When businesses invest in their communities, they become part of the solution. Partnerships like this help create stronger, more resilient neighbourhoods where families can thrive.”
As part of the Home for Good project’s launch in Canada, Alli Walker will be helping shine a spotlight on the importance of safe, affordable housing and the partnerships that make it possible. Her support underscores a shared belief between Habitat Niagara and Cornerstone Building Brands: that everyone deserves a safe place to call home.
Housing affordability continues to be one of Canada’s most pressing challenges. Many families are struggling to balance rising housing costs with other necessities, making the dream of homeownership increasingly out of reach.
Habitat Niagara works to address this challenge by partnering with donors, volunteers, trades, suppliers and community organizations to build affordable homes for local families. Habitat homeowners purchase their homes through an affordable mortgage model and no downpayment, creating a sustainable pathway to homeownership. Mortgage payments are then reinvested into future Habitat builds, helping even more families access safe and affordable housing.
Habitat Niagara is now accepting applications for these four-bedroom townhouses, families are encouraged to apply to become homeowners by visiting habitatniagara.ca.
