Brock Cares Day of Service is an annual tradition where students across Brock University come together to make a positive impact across the Niagara region during the University’s largest volunteering day.
It’s a day that brings together volunteers from across the University to participate in projects to address community need, and this year seven students volunteered at our Fonthill ReStore.
“The students were a huge help,” said Jodi Krah, ReStore manager. “We have limited resources at times and our donation area can get a little back logged. This year the students helped remove clutter and organize our donation centre and flooring, build materials department, we are so grateful for their support.”
This year’s activities included providing support for local seniors and individuals with intellectual disabilities, community beautification, clean-up initiatives and more.
We asked some of the students why they chose to volunteer at Habitat for Humanity and here’s what they told us:
“I’ve always been big into helping my community, coming from a reserve I’m really involved and I like the work that Habitat is doing because not a lot of people have proper housing.” Sophia Bomberry
“I chose to volunteer a Habitat for Humanity because when I was looking for supplies for University it was a great place to shop as I know stuff it lightly used. It also keeps items out of landfills and helps support the local community.” Erin Fraser
