Home #43 - Welland, Niagara College Build (2014-5)

Osman Family.jpg Large

This new home was a Habitat Youth Build, in partnership with Niagara College Canada. It was built over the 2014/15 school year by 72 Niagara College Construction Studies students who rotated through the job site on a weekly basis to from September to April. In addition, students from the Electrical Techniques Program and Construction Engineering were able to train on this build site.

Calling this house a home is the Osman family. Abybeda (Abu) and Reshaa Osman and their children Ala, Mohammed, Safaa, Asraa and Fatima are very thankful that they do not have to spend another winter in their rented townhouse where the poor heating and cold, due to poor insulation, resulted in health problems for the children. Originally from the Sudan, the family proudly received their Canadian citizenship in 2014.

Families are transformed by the process of owning a Habitat home and so is the community of partners and donors. Even the students, who will begin their careers in construction, will be forever changed by building their first home for Habitat.

Habitat would like to thank all of its major partners for their generous support and contributions in building this new home in Welland: Niagara College Canada, City of Welland, Niagara Regional Housing, Niagara Region, Cotton Inc., Walker Industries, Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, The Ontario Paper Thorold Foundation, IBEW Local 303, Max Roofing, ENZOKHAN Stairs & Railing, Walter Ledwiz Masonry, Vern Trottier Siding, Moore Insulation Ltd. and DuLuxe Paints.
