Home #41 - Welland, Niagara College Build (2014)

This new Habitat home was built over the past school year by more than 70 students from Niagara College Canada. It is the 16th Habitat Niagara home in Welland and 41st in the Niagara Region.

Turning this house into a home is the Michel Family.

Joseph and Ginette Michel and their four children – Guy, Joseph, Mirgine and Lourde – came to Canada in 2007. Originally from Haiti, they left to escape dangerous conditions and to give their children a chance at a better life and a first-class education. Since coming to Canada, the Michels have had to move from place to place due to the lack of adequate affordable housing. They are overjoyed to finally have a safe, decent and affordable place to call their own.

Habitat Niagara would like to thank its major partners for their generous support and contributions in building this new home in Welland: Niagara College Canada, Genworth Canada, City of Welland, Niagara Regional Housing, Niagara Region, Cotton Inc., Walker Aggregates Inc., Acumen Plumbing, Heating & Air Conditioning and Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation.
