2016 Awards Ceremony Recognizes Habitat Partners and Supporters
Habitat for Humanity Niagara held its 2016 Awards Ceremony on March 21st to present the Foundation Builder Awards to our outstanding community partners.
The evening opened up with elementary students from Power Glen School singing Canada’s national anthem then the ceremony kicked into high gear with a performance from Laura Secord’s drum line.
Mark Rodgers, Habitat for Humanity Canada’s CEO and President, was the evening’s guest speaker as he shared his insight to Habitat’s 150 Celebrations and his vision for the work of Habitat across Canada.
Current homeowner, Rocio and her four children were present as Rocio took the stage to thank the donors, volunteers and staff of Habitat Niagara for their ‘beautiful home’.
The crescendo of the evening was presenting the Foundation Builder awards to recipients who were recognized for their outstanding involvement with Habitat Niagara. The foundation of Habitat for Humanity Niagara is the strength of our partnerships. When we work together to help families become successful homeowners, we create communities that thrive. Our Foundation Builders believe in making a difference – not simply a donation and we are honoured to recognize our award winners for 2016.

In 2011, Diamond Estates Winery pledged to raise $100,000 over five years to fund an entire Habitat home for a local Niagara family. The small, but mighty team of staff at Diamond Estates raised the funds through a very successful annual golf tournament, BBQs at the winery, selling fundraising wine gift packs and even wine-rack making events. When all was said and done, the Diamond Estates team raised an incredible $101,393.75 and the Habitat home they funded was built in Niagara Falls. We’d like to thank Diamond Estates for their incredible commitment to exceeding their fundraising goal, and helping to build a home for a family of eleven!
The Town of Fort Erie, including Mayor Redekop and council have provided consistent cooperation and partnership to Habitat Niagara over the years. Through their continuous support, service, development and other fees were waived in a timely manner allowing Habitat Niagara to build homes in Fort Erie on schedule. The remarkable staff at the Town, including senior officials, have volunteered on Habitat Niagara’s steering committee and Town staff participated to help build the recent house on Crescent Road. They continue to support Habitat with the second house we’re building on Crescent Road this year as part of our Canada 150 celebration.
Moore Insulation approached Habitat Niagara years ago with one simple message “How can we help?” Attic insulation, although very necessary with our Canadian climate, is not the cleanest or safest job for our volunteers to undertake so we answered that question by involving the best insulation firm in Niagara. Moore Insulation has stepped up by quickly, and safely installing the warm blanket our attics need for the majority of our houses. In addition to providing this service they have also trained and offered useful advice to our crew leads and volunteers on the proper methods of insulating our walls. This ensures our homes are the tightest most effective building system over and above today’s strict building code resulting in lower energy costs to our families.
Royal LePage Niagara supports many charities throughout Niagara and their team is build on the values of giving back to their communities. They set the bar high for realtors in the Niagara region when more than 30 realtors participated on all four of our Habitat home builds across the Niagara region for 2016 . . . and continue their support on all six of our builds this year. We really appreciate the commitment they have to build better lives for the families in our community and are proud to acknowledge the organization and its league of Realtors.
Since 2009, TD Bank Group has been committed to helping Habitat increase their impact throughout the country with their partnership with Habitat Canada. In Niagara, we are incredibly grateful for the difference that TD Bank Group has made locally by committing a major gift each year to Habitat Niagara since 2010, providing ongoing support throughout the region to home builds from St. Catharines to Niagara Falls to Fort Erie and by lending us their dedicated workforce on numerous build days.
